Dr Tim Badgery-Parker, Menzies Centre for Health Policy, University of Sydney. Tim Badgery-Parker is a Research Fellow in the Menzies Centre for Health Policy at the University of Sydney. He recently completed his PhD on measuring low-value care, working with the NSW Ministry of Health and the Capital Markets CRC.
Taking recommendations from Choosing Wisely and similar sources, Tim developed indicators of low-value care based on hospital admissions data and used them to examine the prevalence and trends in use of low-value procedures in NSW public hospitals. He is currently interested in exploring the consequences of low-value care for both patients and the health system. Before starting his PhD, Tim completed a Master of Biostatistics through the NSW Health Biostatistical Officer Training Program, and then worked as a Biostatistics Research Officer in the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and the Cancer Epidemiology and Services Research group (CESR) in the Sydney School of Public Health.
