A/Prof Al Muderis MB ChB FRACS FAOrthAis an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon and a Squadron Leader in the Australian Air Force Reserve. Born in Baghdad, Munjed had to flee Iraq as a young Doctor having refused the orders of Saddam Hussein to mutilate army deserters’ ears.    Munjed holds several academic titles including Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University Of Notre Dame Australia School Of Medicine Sydney, Discipline Head of the Limb Reconstruction Program at Macquarie University Hospital,   Honorary Associate of the School of AMME/Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Sydney, Clinical Lecturer at Macquarie University and the Australian School of Advanced Medicine.  Apart from his academic and clinical roles, Munjed is heavily involved in humanitarian work.  Munjed is a Patron of the Asylum Seekers Centre, Sanctuary Australia Foundation and the New South Wales Amputee Association and an Ambassador of the Australian Red Cross, Amnesty International Australia and Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association.
Andrew Miers, a partner in HWL Ebsworth’s national insurance group, is a risk and claims adviser in the emerging and growing fields of online content, technology and cyber security risks as well as in the more traditional insurance fields of professional, executive and financial risks.   Andrew has a specialist practice in media and technology liability claims.  This frequently involves acting in matters concerning liability for online content including defamation, privacy, social media, intellectual property infringement and IT service provider claims.  His defamation practice spans a range of different sectors and industries including government, media/publishing, health, credit reporting, education and clubs and associations.  In the health sector, he has acted in many defamation disputes involving medical practitioners, often on instruction from medical defence organisations and insurers, including many claims relating to online reviews by disgruntled patients.  Andrew is also recognised for his expertise in cyber security risks and insurance and is a sought after speaker and widely published thought leader in that field.  He has advised on the evolving legal and regulatory landscape for cyber exposures and assisted insurers in developing insurance products and policy wordings to cover such risks. He is on various insurers’ cyber breach response panels handling many cyber incidents and data breaches.
