About Lizzio
Dr Joseph Lizzio, a general surgeon for 20 years, has a practice in general and colo-rectal surgery in the Sutherland Shire. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1974 and became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1981. He continued his surgical training in the United Kingdom, returning to Australia in 1985. In 2004, Dr Lizzio was appointed a part-time medical adviser and claims manager at United Medical Protection. He graduated in law from the University of New South Wales in 2006. His talk relates particularly to problems confronting him in the operating theatre, problems aggravated by his lack of immunity from civil litigation.
McDonald
About McDonald
Professor McDonald graduated in law at the University of Sydney in 1976 and worked for seven years as a solicitor for a large Sydney commercial law firm. She completed a Master of Laws degree at University College in London, graduating in 1980. Following her return to Australia, she joined the law faculty at Sydney University as a part-time lecturer in torts and took up a full-time position at Sydney University in 1991. Professor McDonald now lectures in torts, equity and media law and is also the academic member of the Law Society of New South Wales Specialist Accreditation Personal Injury Advisory Committee.
Harrison

Ian Harrison, BA LLB, was admitted to the Bar in 1977 and appointed a senior counsel in 1995. In 1996 he was appointed by the Commonwealth Attorney General to conduct an inquiry into allegations of corruption in the Australian Federal Police Force. Since then he has held various honorary positions, including President of the New South Wales Bar Association between 2003 and 2005, President of the Australian Bar Association in 2004, and Chairman of the New South Wales Bar Association’s Professional Conduct Committee. He has been Chairman and Director of the Neuroscience Institute of Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders. He was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court in February 2007.
